What a clever idea for Interim. Travel, BBQ = a grade! Love the website and all the info. Good luck and be safe.

Matt; we never thought we would have to keep up with you this way! Dad and I are sitting at the computer, reading about you and the guys, where you are, what you are eating. Run out of money yet? ha. Ya'll stay safe - drive careful - we love you.

Art, Art, Art.... Hon, I don't know what to say. Your loving parents raised you the RIGHT way, sent you to an amazing school - and THIS is what's become of you...? *sigh* Goodness. I could add to your bio page anytime you want me to. Come to think of it, I could blackmail you with some of that info. Hmmm... and f BSC comes up with some sort of chocolate sampling road trip let me know. I may just decide to go back to college. (Nutrisystem & Jenny Craig would have to bail me out though) You guys be careful out there. Have fun while you can, because one of these days, you'll have to get a real job. *grin* Check's in the mail kiddo - please spell my name correctly.....

Please try "The Lexington Barbeque Restaurant" on old US 64/70 on the north side of Lexington, NC. As I recall, this is where Center Street intersects with 64/70. When I was young (Military Brat) everytime we went back to Winston-Salem, to see family, we would get the best donuts "Kispy Cream" (Started in Winston-Salem) and the best BBQ at the The Lexington Barbeque Restaurant. If you get a chance call my Uncle Bill Medlin in Walkertown, NC at 336-595-2732. I could not remember 45 years back about the best BBQ in NC. Have a great trip and may the Lord protect and soften the road.

Great stuff!... When passing through Atlanta, you MUST (Kantian categorical imperative MUST) go to Harold's. It's in a bad part out town (near the federal pen on the south side of I-20), but both the sliced and chpped pork sandwiches are woth risking your life.

Judy White said:   January 8, 2009 6:52 am PST
Saw you on tv this morning and had to check it out. I am impressed that you convinced the college that eating bbq is a class. Sounds like a fun and fattening road trip to me! Too bad, you don't have two of my favorite bbq joints in Alabama listed: Top Hat in Blount Springs and Oh Sooooooo Goood Barbecue in Oneonta. Good Luck and Good Eats!!!

Maggie McDonald said:   January 8, 2009 6:29 am PST
Nice spot on ABC 33/40 this morning! Good luck and safe travels. Maggie

While you are in Memphis, you may want to try Corkys BBQ. Good luck on your findings.

Ford Ray said:   January 7, 2009 8:02 pm PST
Man, the site is looking better and better. I think ya'll have got a great group of bbq joints that ya'll are heading out to. Good luck with the first half of the journey and I look forward to seeing ya'll in the Classic City. Oh yeah, Old Clinton is on me fellas. Be safe and enjoy this once in a lifetime experience.

Jonathan Harder said:   January 7, 2009 4:37 pm PST
I have a suggestion for the Memphis leg of your tour. You need to go to the Bar-B-Q Shop on Madison. Unlike the Rendezvous it has a true dry rub rib. I recommend the Boss order of ribs dressed half and half. Have safe travels. It is at 1782 Madison Ave. 901-272-1277

Linda G said:   January 7, 2009 4:37 pm PST
You definitely should also try.. Miss Myra's BBQ near the Summit/ Cahaha Heights area in Birmingham. Try the white sauce.

Sounds like the launch of a great great effort! Not yet sure of your route, but don't miss Williamson Brothers in Canton, GA , the Hog in Fayetteville, AL as well as the southeastern side of Georgia - below I-20 and East of I-75......Wishing you guys lots of fun and great adventures! Be sure to document well!

Too bad you don't have time to visit my home state, Florida, often overlooked despite some great bbq. Hope you have the time of your lives. Let us know what your music soundtrack contains. Good Luck. Pamela Sawallis, BSC Library

Hi Art, I'm sending your blog address to Whitney. After her summer interning with a Michelin chef in Provence, I know she will be impressed with a southern bbq journey! I told her that she will never make a living as a chef in the south where bbq pork and fried chicken fingers are considered gourmet foods. But, hey, I like both of htem, too. Good luck on your trip, have fun, stay safe, eat well. We want to still be active Demos when you run for office! Paul and Yvonne Foster

You guys are missing out if you do not go to Germantown Commissary in Memphis/Germantown. I've lived in Memphis for a short period of time and Commissary is the best in my view, but thats just me. -in hoc Brian

There's really no dollar amount you can put on something like having your name on Will Foster's jacket...I'm sold.

Sounds like you will enjoy a series of wonderful culinary experiences during the month of January! I have a couple of suggestions for great BBQ; the Silver Moon In Shreveport, Louisiana (great) nothing but slabs, sauce and white bread and Cooter Browns in Jacksonville, Al. Good luck and I look forward to watching your progress!

I only have one word to describe my emotions right now after viewing this site: Jealous. When you come back home and are 24 pounds heavier than before, we shall build memorials in your honor. Godspeed gentlemen. P.S. watch out for Foster's cholesterol level

Bill Fain said:   December 12, 2008 5:29 pm PST
I can't wait to see you being interviewed by Dan Rather. You need to keep track of the difference in slaw as well. That can differ just as much as the meat. Good Luck fellas!

As your former babysitter, I know you can eat, Mr. Art! I hope the South is ready for you and your buds!! Y'all might want to invest in some Fruit Tums... they are the best!! Good Luck!!!

Ok Art, here's a place for you to go. Best ribs I ever had. Roger's BBQ in LaGrange, GA. I don't have any money to give you, but best of luck. Hope you don't get sick. :) Mr. B

How big a boys are y'all? I need to see some proof of the size of the britches y'all are wearing before I know if I can believe one thing y'all are saying cause if a bunch of skinny butts think they know BBQ then well that ain't right!

Renie Moss said:   December 10, 2008 2:50 pm PST
Have y'all contacted the local news and food network? This project is awesome! I wish I'd thought it in college! Looking forward to following y'all's study!

You forgot to mention in Art's profile, "Is frequently seen at democratic events droppin it like its hot." Have fun, and if you guys really want to taste good BBQ, Texas is where it is at!

Hope ya'll have a great time gallivanting around the south! I feel that any school project that involves eating will be a success from the very start.

Art, if your group gets college credit for this and all expenses paid, I vote you for President. I wish I could come up with something like this. Great time to do it while the Gas is low. Wish I had a BBQ recommendation. Not a big BBQ eater. Good luck & have a great time. I'll try to make a donation by the end of the month. Trevor.

I must say I'm fairly impressed with this site but I am more impressed with the fact the four of you convinced a respectable college to allow you to eat barbeque for a month as a class. I would have a 4.0 if I could take barbeque class all four years. It also looks good that four of Sigma Chi's most reputable members are using their time during interim to really expand their intellectual horizons and prepare for their future. Several things I gathered from reading the profiles that are inaccurate: 1) First of all Jeff its not that you are like an 80 year old man, you just dress like one... 2) Matt your hair is not receding Holly is pulling it out while you sleep... 3) I have spent more than ten minutes with Foster and still enjoyed myself.. I think Matt Lee just has an overactive bladder so he has to go to the bathroom every ten minutes and is using his insecurities to poke fun at Foster..
