'Southern BBQ Boys
Where We Have Eaten

Alabama

Byron's

Auburn, AL

Byron's was chosen for many intelligent and thoughtful reasons 1. The BBQ is highly recommended and Aubie-approved. 2. Auburn women are some of the finest in the world. period. 3. It was on our route and it made for an interesting stop. At Byron's, we hope to sample the fine cuisine and soak in the charm of this college town establishment.

Dreamland

Tuscaloosa, AL

No one can mention Tuscaloosa without discussing Alabama Football and/or the Bear. With this, we had to visit a fan favorite: Dreamland. Dreamland is known for its ribs and vinegar-tomato sauce. You have to try the bread dipped in steaming-hot sauce, shout "Roll Tide!", and thank the spirit of founder "Big Daddy" John Bishop for running and maintaining this charming joint during his time.

Big Bob Gibson's

Decatur, AL

Photobucket

Known for their white sauce, Big Bob Gibsons has been international attention as a BBQ hotspot. The food will speak for itself and it is guaranteed to be a great end to our amazing and delicious journey.

Tennessee

Commissary

Memphis, TN

Commissary's were small country stores throughout the south. They sold everything from blue jeans to bologna. The original Commissary, in Germantown, Tennessee was a small country store for over 90 years, when Walker Taylor bought it in 1981.  The name worked then and still does today.

Neely's Bar-B-Que

Memphis, TN - Neely's Bar-B-Que originated in downtown Memphis in 1988. It has continually been voted the best ribs in Memphis, and has the awards to prove it. Neely's has been featured on the Food Network and numerous times on the Al Rocker show, who is a huge fan of Neely's!

Corky's
Germantown, TN

Corky’s is a well-known franchise all over the Southeast.  The original Corky’s is found in Germantown, TN and looks like a BBQ hotspot that we can’t miss.

Jack's Bar-B-Que
Nashville, TN

Nashville is known for great country music but there is a hidden gem of 'cue between the honky-tonks of Nashville's Broadway Street. This stop will offer feast of delicious pork and sides that rival your grandmother's. So before heading to the Grand Ole Opry or Tootsies, stop at Jack's Bar-B-Que for a meal you won't forget.

Sticky Fingers

Chattanooga, TN

Started by three close friends, Sticky Fingers is a favorite spot for barbecue in the South.  It is truly a testament to how a few friends can make their dreams come true and open up their own very successful business.

North Carolina

Lexington #1 Barbecue
Lexington, NC

Lexington, North Carolina is famous for its barbecue.  While the BBQ Boys only got to take a quick trip through the small town, we were able to spot several "Hog Statues" on the street corners.  Lexington #1 is unbeatable in their hospitality and western North Carolina style pork.

Stamey's

Stamey's is another joint known for the Western/Lexington style 'cue. In addition to the mouthwatering chopped pork, Western NC is known for their sides, which include hushpuppies and slaw. Also, we will be eating dinner with BBQ expert David Bailey of Delta Sky Magazine here in Greensboro. Check out his blog at: http://www.delta-sky.com/cueconfessions

B's BBQ

To contrast the Lexington/Western NC style, we will visit BBQ joints who present the Eastern NC style: a strong emphasis on the meat and vinegar sauce on the side and. As many BBQ junkies know, the best 'cue often comes from a shack in the middle of nowhere. B's BBQ fits this definition. We just hope that we will get there in time to grab a sandwich before the 'cue disappears.

The Pit

The Pit prepares their pigs as a whole hog, instead of just butts. The whole hog technique brings us to The Pit, but the charm and character of the actual restaurant will be the icing on the cake for this meal.

Wilber's

Wilbur's is a staple of Eastern BBQ in Goldsboro. With a knack for Brunswick Stew and tantalizing chopped pork, the BBQ Boys must make a stop

South Carolina

Sweatman's BBQ

To taste the unique mustard-based sauce of South Carolina, you must stop by Sweatman's in Holly Hill, SC. You and your tastebuds will be pleased with your decision.

Scott's BBQ

This rustic stop in Hemingway, SC does not need plastic menus or flashy lights to impress customers. While the menu is limited to the pulled pork, whole hog style, the rollercaster of flavor from this delicious sandwich will satisfy any urge for great barbecue.

Georgia

Fox Bros BBQ
Atlanta, GA
Atlanta may be known as home of the Atlanta Braves, Centinneal Park, and Martin Luther King, Jr. but it is also home to one of the South's most impressive new barbecue restaurants. Fox Bros BBQ is owned and operated by a pair of twins whose passions include Widespread Panic and pleasing the pork cravings of the greater Atlanta metro area. Between a Braves game and a great concert, stop by Fox Bros BBQ and try the impressive Tominator or the Mac & Cheese. As far as barbecue goes, the ribs and pulled pork will make you slap yo momma!

Fresh Air BBQ- Athens, GA

This restaurant was recommended to the BBQ boys, and while Will was at home over the break Fresh Air mailed a menu to his residence.  After reviewing the menu and hearing another positive review from his father the BBQ boys were convinced Fresh Air needed to be on the route!

Old Clinton BBQ- Macon, GA

Old Clinton gained more fame recognition through Mike Rowe's Discovery Channel TV show Dirty Jobs, however this BBQ joint has been famous long before Mike Rowe ever encountered it.  A close associate of the BBQ boys told us he and his family have been loyal patrons for years, and this restaurant in middle Georgia quickly appeared on the route.
